Description: "Federal legislation contained in the Medicare, Medicaid, and
SCHIP Extension Act of 2007 effective this year could radically change the
ability of insurers - including risk retention groups - to settle
liability and workers' compensation claims. The legislation was enacted in
part to ensure that Medicare enforces its liens on insurers for medical
benefits Medicare pays for treatments related to liability or workers
compensation claims. This session will discuss the potential impact of
that legislation on the ability of insurance entities such as risk
retention groups to close claims, and the consequential potential impact
on claim costs and actuarial analyses."
