FROM THE DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Beth J. Duke

Judging from the look of this quarter's newsletter, it's pretty apparent that Baskow and Associates is thinking green! And we're not talking about St. Patrick's Day!

In the past few years, the world has been taking notice of our environment, and our impact on the world around us. The meetings and events industry has recently been focusing on environmental issues, and Baskow & Associates has been a leader for years in environmental protection and sustainability.

In this newsletter, you will learn a bit about how Baskow and Associates is committed to recycling, re-using and reducing. From transportation to meetings,  you'll see how we are constantly working to reduce waste and promote practical steps to reducing negative impact on the environment.

You'll also learn a bit about one of the greatest new "green" venues we've ever worked with, right here in Las Vegas!

The future of our planet affects each and everyone of us, and we are committed to our role as an industry leading Destination Management Company to lead by example and action, not just by words.

GREEN MEETING PRACTICES
Baskow "Green" Meetings/Events Initiative

Baskow and Associates is dedicated to producing “Green Meetings and Events” and approaches each event, with an awareness and responsibility to sustaining and reducing impact on the environment.

At Baskow and Associates, we have taken steps both internally and externally with events to promote eco-friendly best practices within the hospitality industry and have partnered with many organizations to enact our beliefs.

Our mission is to lead the charge in the dedication to sustainability in the events industry by practicing and promoting best practices in this area.

Green Transportation

  • Enforcing vehicle idle laws on the vehicles - engines off during event

  • Use recycled materials for all sign production

  • Carpooling of staff to main pickup locations, reducing fuel consumption

  • Traffic routes proposed are shortest in miles, possibly reducing fuel consumption

  • Enforce carbon neutral travel - suggest planting trees at nearby schools or parks to offset the carbon emissions produced by the buses

Green Meetings

  • Using a linen and towel reuse program

  • Using china and linen service or at a minimum biodegradable products

  • Providing water in pitchers or bulk coolers instead of individual plastic bottles

  • Providing local, organic and vegetarian food and beverage options

  • Donating un-served food to area food banks

  • Recycling!

BASKOW IN THE COMMUNITY
Paying it Forward with S.A.F.E. House of Las Vegas

As part of our core company values, Baskow & Associates has made a commitment to participate on a company-wide basis in a minimum of one community service project per quarter, each year.

For the first quarter of 2008, the Baskow & Associates family reached out to S.A.F.E. House - (Stop Abuse in the Family Environment) a local non-profit organization that offers an array of services for victims as well as offenders in domestic violence. S.A.F.E. House's goal is to provide quality crisis intervention, shelter services, counseling and transitional resources to domestic violence victims and their children.  The organization was founded in 1994 and has served thousands of clients throughout the years.  They offer a 24/7 crisis hotline for domestic violence victims to receive information and referrals, in addition if the program is appropriate the victim is offered emergency shelter which is at an undisclosed location. Within their office  they offer 1 on 1 counseling for victims and their children and a unique batterer's intervention program. They also offer advocacy to assist victims with the judicial process and transitional advocacy to assist victims who have left an abusive relationship.

The organization was in dire need of basic food stuffs, cleaning supplies and diapers. The committee, consisting of members from the talent, accounting, sales, administration, housing and registration teams went to work putting up flyers and sending emails to everyone within the organization. From there, each employee was encouraged to reach out to three additional contacts. As a result, donations were generous. Each day, carloads of goods were delivered to Baskow's Offices by strategic partners, talent and coordinators, not to mention the office staff. Several monetary donations were also collected on behalf of the organization.

Overall, it was a very satisfying and rewarding experience to see how a few people can make a big difference in the lives of others.

TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
Let Online Surveys do the Work for You!

Baskow & Associates now offers a state-of-the-art online survey technology that will dramatically increase your survey response rates!

Traditionally, paper surveys result in a 10-15 percent response rate. Add to that the days and weeks it takes to collect and tabulate the data, you have a less than useful process on your hands.

By offering electronic surveys online, you can send email invitations to complete the survey. We can time the emails so that on Monday morning, for example, following a conference, an email invitation to the survey is waiting for your attendee in their inbox!

Our experience with over 200 surveys have shown that response rates easily hit 50 to 60 percent., and your management team can view results in real-time with our  powerful survey reporting on the web! Results can instantly be saved to Excel for further analysis, if needed.
